Partnership with the schools

RIVAHFEST - Art display
Rivahfest is held before Memorial Day. The whole of downtown is closed off. The chamber decided to devote the whole event to children and made it child-centric.

Each merchant displayed copies of student art from Lancaster Primary School and Lancaster Middle School. This covered the students who did not place in the Art Contest held in May, where the top places were displayed in the Lancaster Community Library.

Children up to age 12 annotated cards when they found the art work at the merchant site. The local radio station, WKWI, drew six names every hour from the completed cards for free ice cream at the Rivah Shoppe.

At the end of the event, the chamber issued certificates to the schools for the participants. The partnership was extremely sucessful. The community loved not only the precious works of art, but the fact that the chamber cared about encouraging the artistic expression and development of the community's youth.

The Key Club hopes to build an educational addition to this page under the mentorship of Mrs. Manning, the art teacher in the middle school. We hope to feature various aspects of art education in Lancaster County Public Schools.

RIVAHFEST - Clothesline sale
In partnership with the Rappahannock Art League, the chamber arranged a clothesline art sale for the student of Lancaster High School. This initiative was to expose students to the commercialization aspect of art and to help them raise money for college education beyond high school.

Dave Vogel is a top-notch math teacher at the high school, and he is the Key Club Faculty Advisor. The community is very fortunate to have dedicated and capable teachers like him to mentor and guide our children.

Believing in furthering and fostering the work ethic, rather than giving the track team the money for a tent, the chamber invited them to vallet crafters by helping them set up at 5 am in the morning for tips. Above is a picture of the team at 5 am in the morning. Alive? Yes.

Ah, later in the day! Charlotte manned the mini putt-putt golf course. There were games for all of the children of the community to play.

Russ manned the moon walk tent all day.
